The Devil Wears Prada. But will they wear Prada to the 2026 Met Gala?

The biggest night of the intersection of entertainment, sports, and fashion is just a few days away (May 4th) and for the first time you can trade on who is going to show up. Sure, when those limo doors open on 5th Avenue, your mouth can drop after weeks of anticipation on who comes out and takes those steps on the red carpet. But this year you can also make money if, say, Zendaya comes out in Skims.

It’s the First Monday in May. It’s the Met Gala. And there are Markets. There’s some clever alliteration there but we’ll figure that out later!

This year’s theme is “Costume Art” and features co-chairs Anna Wintour, Beyonce (returning to the Met Gala for the first time in a decade), Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams. So we know those four are going to be there. But who else is going to show? More importantly, who else isn’t?

The most interesting angle to me is that the market hasn’t been able to figure out if the cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2 is going to be there. The movie premieres on Friday, May 1st, just three days before the Met Gala. Given the film revolves around (essentially) Anna Wintour and Vogue Magazine (“Miranda Priestly” and “Runway”), the speculation is that several of the film’s stars will appear at the Met Gala to promote the movie. Fans are dying for Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt to recreate their famous photo from the first film on the Met stairs. But they just reunited last week at the New York premiere at Lincoln Center and recreated the photo there. Are they going to do it again?

Let’s start with the movie’s star and the most likely of the cast to attend. You can trade on Anne Hathaway attending (Yes: 92¢, No: 31¢) and it’s probably a safe — but unexciting — investment.

Hathaway’s first Met Gala was in 2009 and she has attended eight total events, including last year. Hathaway was also recently on People magazine’s cover for their “Most Beautiful” list and, given the movie tie-ins, there seems to be no reason why she wouldn’t attend.

Stanley Tucci (Yes: 65¢, No: 41¢) has attended the Met Gala several times, including in 2016. He’s known in Hollywood as one of the most fashionable and given the movie tie-ins, we would probably lean toward YES, which you’re getting good value at.

And then there’s Meryl Streep (Yes: 66¢, No: 38¢). Understandably, the idea of Meryl posing with Anna Wintour at the Met Gala sounds iconic. But it’s never happened before. Meryl Streep has never attended the Met Gala. While she was slated to co-chair the event in 2020 (with Emma Stone and Lin-Manuel Miranda), Covid knocked that out. Even when promoting the first The Devil Wears Prada, Streep did not attend the event. While Anna Wintour is obviously more in on the joke now, Streep appearing is certainly no lock.

Streep started at a 99% chance of not attending when the market opened and shot up to 88% on April 11. This number has fluctuated over the last two weeks, reaching a high of 99% YES on April 16 and a low of 47% YES on April 27. Over the last 48 hours, the number has crept back up, despite no new information has come out. Here’s the roller coaster in all its glory:

Is it possible the review of the movie would affect Meryl’s attendance? Maybe, but doubtful. The fashion houses have booked tables months in advance, and they need to make sure those are filled up. No last-minute decisions are being made.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 cast have reunited constantly in the run up to the movie’s release. Will the first Monday in May be their final bow of promotion — or have they moved on to what’s next?

Other Met Monday investments We Like

Timothée Chalamet – NO (65¢). Chalamet was overexposed in his run up to the Oscars, potentially costing him the best Actor award for Marty Supreme. Since Oscar night, Chalamet’s appearances have been sporadic. While partner Kylie Jenner will definitely be in attendance and the 2026 theme (reminder: it’s Costume Art) is basically how Chalamet dresses daily, we think he will continue to lay low. Separately, if the Knicks advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs, Game 1 is very likely on Monday night, May 4. Is he really going to the Met Gala over seeing his beloved Knicks, potentially in Boston!?

A$AP Rocky – YES (87¢) and to NOT wear Dior (90¢). Rocky was recently photographed with co-chair Nicole Kidman, was seen with partner Rihanna in Paris finalizing looks, and in 2025 wore his own brand AWGE to the event. 2025 was a launching pad for his fashion brand and he likely wants to continue the momentum into 2026 by attending. Rocky is also a major brand ambassador for Bottega Veneta and would be highly unlikely to be wearing Dior, if he’s not wearing his own line.

Margot Robbie – YES (75¢). A major Chanel brand ambassador, Robbie is likely to attend and support the co-chair, Anthony Vaccarello of Saint Laurent.

In case you missed it, Episode 7 of “Fade the Field” is up — Gene Clemons and Chris James looked ahead to 2026 NFL awards for the rookies and even gave some teams they like to win the 2026 College Football National Championship.
